Liturgy of the Word with Children

Liturgy of the Word with Children is designed to include children in the liturgy and create a sense of belonging. Children who participate are dismissed and go to Room 11. We do all of the things you do in the main assembly; that is, we read scripture, sing, have a homily, and offer prayers of the faithful.

All of the readings, homilies, and prayers are geared toward the younger members of St. Patrick Church of Merna so that they better understand and apreciate the value of God's word. This is a great opportunity for them to hear and talk about God's word on their own level. We don't just preach to them; instead we ask them questions about the readings and try to help them apply their understanding of the readings to their own lives.

In essence, the children's celebration is an extension of the main assembly celebration. Since spiritual enrichment comes from participation in the liturgy, drawing the children into the liturgy at their own level better enables them to participate and understand what is proclaimed in the celebration.
